Transit Alignment Corridor

A corridor built around a fixed transit line (light rail, streetcar, or dedicated BRT) running parallel to or within the roadway, addressing how the transit alignment shapes the corridor’s whole cross-section for its full length.

#Why this pattern exists

A fixed transit alignment is not just another lane, it constrains cross-section width, access point spacing, and intersection design continuously along the corridor in a way that a bus running in mixed traffic does not. Treating each segment along a transit alignment independently risks a cross-section that works at one point and fails at the next (a dedicated lane that disappears and reappears, station spacing that does not match access needs).

  • Cross-section allocation for the transit alignment should be consistent for the corridor’s length, not renegotiated segment by segment
  • Station/stop placement should be planned as a corridor-wide sequence, not sited independently at each segment
